We're getting ready for our trip, and one of the things we needed to do, was set up a blog to keep as we were traveling along. So this is a test. Hmmm, what else needs to be done? Plenty as far as packing ... We have all our new duffle-bags on wheels. That's all we're taking with us as we board the trains, planes and automobiles (and busses, and trolleys and connecting transits, and the EL and the Metro... lol).
I'm glad we'll have some friends checking in on our house... making it look more "lived in" or at least that something is going on. They'll use the pool and check in on our turtles. And they can call us if something happens like a tree falling over or the fence collapsing (as it once really did which we discovered on a return from a trip to the coast.) We're thankful also for neighbors who will keep things going there too.
Our trip itinerary is as follows:
July 5th, leave Martinez, CA. by train.
July 6th, arrive in Denver, Colorado. We got a phone call from Amtrak telling us that because they will be working on repairs or upgrades on the rails, we'll need to get out in Grand Junction, Colorado and ride a bus the remaining 8 hours to Denver! :( We're thinking of making it a 4 hour drive through the Rockies by rented car.
July 10, head to Chicago by train.
July 11, arrive in Chicago.
July 14 leave Chicago, Illinois by rented car for Indianapolis (just a stop on the way to Kentucky)
July 15th, arrive in one of two places in Kentucky
July 19, leave Kentucky for Charleston, West Virginia
July 20 go to Williamsburg, Virginia
July 22th, arrive in and drop off car in Washington DC (now we rely on public transportation)
July 26 Leave for LA (by way of Las Vegas) by plane.
July 27th Leave for Fresno ~ Home ~ by train.
I wonder if we can also upload pictures..... OK, enough for a test. Let's see if it works.
