A Really Great Day

Our first glimpse of the Mall of America
A store with no walls - just stucture and glass bricks!

Close up of the shark as it passed over us!

Victor's 1959 Cafe. "revolutionary Cuban cooking"
Can you see where we added our signature to the wall?
People wrote all over the walls, seats, ceiling and window sills.

Day7
(this is Jonathan now)
We started off the day at 11:30 going to Victor's 1959 Cafe, an obscure little green building tucked into a regular neighborhood. The first thing we saw when we walked in was all the writing on the walls and ceiling done by people from everywhere.
We picked this restaurant because it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the food network. It had really good authentic Cuban food. I had Lime garlic marinated steak with grilled onions. There was a mound of rice covered with black beans. It was served with fried plantins which tasted like sweet potatoes. Dad had a Cuban steqk sandwich. The steak was marinated in Mojo sauce which was garlic and lime. Chris had a Cuban sandwich. It was pressed with pulled pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. Mom had a chicken sandwich with mango salsa.

Next we went to the Mall of America . When we went there, the outside parking was completely full so we went to a parking garage. Our parking section was called Maine and it had a lobster on the sign. There were 2 giant lego bricks outside the mall. The mall was very different than all the others because 1) it's the biggest mall in America, 2) it had an aquarium in it and 3) it had a Nickolodean Amusement Park in the middle. Plus there were a bunch of shops.
The first thing we did was o to the Lego shop. The Lego shop was really cool because the lego architecture was two stories high. It had a whole bunch of cool Legos. Then we went to get a cinnamon pretzel from our favorite pretzel place, Auntie Ann's.

After we ate our pretzel, we went down to the aquarium. We walked through the aquarium. It was really cool because you walked through a glass tunnel and there were fish, sharks, rays, and sea turtule swimming above and beside us.
After that we saw glass columns filled with jelly fish. I thought it was so facinating because they didn't have any brains, hearts, or blood, but did something interesting. There were lights in the column and when the lights changed the jelly fish changed to that color.

After the aquarium, we finished our visit by going to the "Mall of America"
store and got a magnet to remember this by.

Then for dinner we drove over to Donatelli's, an Italian restaurant. That was also featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I got some really good Lasagna. Chris got Gnocchi, Dad got the special pasta with meatballs. Mom got ravioli. All of our dishes were covered with their signature red sauce and a mountain of melted cheese. Chris said his gnocchi was "Off da Hook".

Finally after a long day we went back to the hotel to rest.

  1. The video was taken by me, Peggy, because Jonathan was so facinated by the changing colors. However, I didn't realize that the camera was on its side so the columns are now laying down!
