We find ourselves sitting here in Beckley, West Virginia waiting for an exchange rental car. It seems our Ford Fusion has some transmission problems. We’ve had some trouble starting it, also there’s problems with the gears shifting correctly even ‘though it’s an automatic. We get no power going up an incline. We have 350 miles to go and traveling at 40 mph doesn’t get us there quickly. At the car rental company's suggestion and a little help from our GPS, we found and called a Ford dealership/service center but they were booked for a week so they couldn't even look at our transmission. The rental company thinks they can get a car to us within 4 or 5 hours, so in the meantime, we'll wait at this rest stop. There’s a big craft store, a gas station, and hotels nearby. So we’ll walk and explore, and see what’s here.
That was written while we were waiting to hear back from the car rental company. We decided it was better to stay in a hotel here, and leave tomorrow morning as soon as we can pack. The car, an older, and more scratched up Dodge, but running well with lots of trunk space arrived by tow truck. Gratefully we exchanged the two cars and settled in for the evening. Because the car arrived so late we didn't get a chance to look around. We didn't want to take the chance that it would actually break down while we were touring this city with the original car. But we did have a chance to get caught up with all our laundry and the boys were delighted to have time to watch TV and play their Nintendo DS, and go on the computer. Usually I'm the one who dominates the computer with uploading pictures or writing on here, or checking email... smile=)
We saw how God has protected us, and provided for us. Had we chanced it to continue the 350 miles to Williamsburg, VA, we may have gotten stranded in an area that we couldn't have had such a leisurely wait. Or in a dangerous place on the Interstate. Or where there was no cell phone reception. Also, the car rental company is picking up the tab for our hotel costs, and since we weren't able to get the cost back of the hotel we booked through hotels.com, we really weren't out any money. This hotel only has suites and the boys were thrilled with the size and the 2 TVs that were here. We got to rest a bit, and have clean clothes again, so we are grateful for His protection and provisiton.
